Lolo and Lola

I’m back, after months of hiatus. Why? Mainly because of Laziness. Everyone deserves a break and I got mine.

But this is not about me it’s about places I’ve been and food I’ve tasted or endured and to kick it off, let me go back to my roots. Filipino Cooking.

Lolo and Lola or Grandpa and Grandma.

Do you remember the days when you were back home, lunch time, sitting on bench or what we call bangko, waiting for Lola to serve you that delicious meal while Lolo keeps you company, that is what I felt.

Seldom would you praise a dish native your taste buds but I’m compelled to do so. Why again? They have taken the carinderia (food stall) to a new level.

They don’t have a set menu, as it changes from each day they open. They explore signature dishes from each region of my home country and give it a boost, a big boost.

The day I visited, I had Bagnet. A dish originating from the Ilocos region which is at the northern

part of the Philippines. It was great, the pork bits with the crackling. Yes, if wrecks havoc to my cholesterol count but it was worth it.

Sadly, they're located 240 km from where I am based, but I make it a point to drop in if I'm in Canberra,. They open at 11:00 am, so be there. As any carinderia, their supply is limited.

Location: Westside Acton Park, 3 Barrine Drive Canberra, ACT 2601

Highly recommended
